Best Conservation Farmer in the Gauteng Province
The Organizing Committee of the 44th Annual Congress of the Grassland Society of Suthern Africa invites you to submit nominations of suitable candidates for consideration for the Peter Edwards Award for Best Conservation Farmer in the Gauteng Province.
Suitable candidates for the Award should meet the following criteria:
- The recipient should be utilising veld (range and/or pasture for domestic livestock production and/or game farming).
- Farming practices should include, as far as possible, sound cultural and management practices which are recommended to ensure the optimum economic utilisation, conservation and reclamation of natural resources.
- Contribution to his/her community by way of participation and leadership in study groups, soil conservation committees, organised agriculture, etc.
Where a group is identified to receive
the Award, for example, a study group or soil conservation committee or
a tribal authority or a community making use of communal land, the
leader in such a group would receive the Award on behalf of such a
group.
The nominations will be short-listed and farms or land-units will be
visited by an adjudication panel comprising members of the Organising
Committee and local advisory personnel. The short-listed nominees will
be judged by the panel according to water and soil conservation, veld
condition, pasture condition, condition and management of livestock or
game animals, knowledge of conservation principles and general
neatness.
