LETTER OF INVITATION
The World Association of Animal Production, the South African Society for Animal Science and the All-Africa Association of Animal Production cordially invite you to participate in the 10th World Conference on Animal Production, to be held in association with the 42nd Congress of the South African Society for Animal Science and the 5th All-Africa Conference on Animal Production.
The World Conference on Animal Production is a trend-setting conference that examines the scientific progress in livestock production and the effects that these have on the environment, economies and the quality of life of people.
The theme of the conference, New World; Future World, takes in the philosophy of the World Association for Animal Production, conceptualising the place of animals in our daily existence. The theme focuses the following plenary sessions on constructing a future scenario for the various systems of animal production.
Livestock systems and land tenure
Investing in genetics
Livestock products and human nutrition
Physiological limits to production efficiency
Managing resources for sustainable livestock production, human dignity and social security
Intellectual capital for livestock production
Technological surges and livestock production: Scenarios for developed and developing economies
The power of consumerism
Molecules, production and quality: The role of production and product modifying substances
International aspects of livestock, livestock production and products: Are fences and boundaries an enigma or impediment?
Presentations will be as invited plenary papers and as poster sessions with plenty of time for interactive discussions. Poster sessions have a number of advantages over oral short paper presentations by extending the ability to accommodate many scientific reports, allowing for more personalised interactions between delegates, optimising on space and time and giving delegates an equal opportunity to present their research. Each poster should have a short scientific communication that will be peer reviewed and if accepted, published in a supplement to a scientific journal.
A symposium with the theme Adaptation for different environments will be held as part of the University of Pretoria’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. Animal Science has made many contributions to livestock production and celebrating these contributions would be an appropriate and significant event.
The Animal Feed Manufacturers’ Association of South Africa (AFMA) and the World Poultry Association Branch of South Africa (WPSA) are linking their annual scientific meetings to the main event as satellite symposia. Their participation broadens the field and allows delegates to participate in the events of feed manufacturers and the poultry industry.
The venue for the 10th WCAP is the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Cape Town is an excellent city with a colourful population, a rich cultural heritage and an interesting and unique geographical setting.
We look forward to being your hosts at this prestigious conference on animal production.
Yours sincerely,
Norman Casey
